Reduce Costs with MedImpact’s Pharmacy Flu Program

Did you know when your members receive a flu vaccination through a retail pharmacy YOU can save up to 50% over the cost of a visit to a physician’s office?

Flu Vaccine Program

Impact of Influenza

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that each year 5% to 20% of the U.S. population is affected by influenza – what we commonly call “the flu” – and an average 226,000 patients are hospitalized for flu-related complications.1 The best way for your members to reduce their risk of catching the flu and giving it to others is to get an annual flu vaccine.

Why Retail?

Retail pharmacy is becoming one of the fastest growing venues for administering immunizations and improving community immunization rates. Pharmacists in all 50 states can administer vaccines, usually without requiring an appointment. Members appreciate the convenience of receiving the flu vaccine while they shop, while plans benefit from eliminating a costly physician office visit.

What is the Pharmacy Flu Program?

MedImpact has a Pharmacy Flu Program allowing members to receive flu vaccinations directly from a participating pharmacy from Sept. 1, 2015, through Feb. 28, 2016. In our broad flu network, members can choose from a variety of pharmacy locations to receive the flu shot. From drug stores and supermarkets to retailers and independent pharmacies, there are numerous options from which your members can choose.

Boosting Enrollment Through Communication

MedImpact has created a convenient turn-key communication campaign to help you promote the Pharmacy Flu Program to your members. Our kit contains the following member communication materials that you can personalize to meet your needs:

  • Member letter template
  • Member email template
  • Member call script sample
  • Member newsletter article
  • Member postcard template
  • Member website promotion

Timing is Critical

In the United States flu season occurs in the fall and winter, with the peak hitting anywhere between late November and the end of March2. Making sure your members are protected prior to the peak of the season can increase their chances of not contracting the flu. For maximum reach, we recommend launching your Pharmacy Flu Program communications as soon as possible. We continue to assume that most new generic product launches will include an authorized generic player.

Take the First Step

Help your members avoid costly, time-intensive visits to a physician’s office so they can join the millions of people choosing to protect themselves from the flu.
